Taking Stacked Cages to a Whole New Level!

Our latest cage creation provides the perfect balance for a divided cage with GREAT ease-of-access. Our new Swing Grids allow full access to both levels of this stacked creation, without sacrificing stability or style. This makes cage cleaning a breeze, and lets you easily access your piggies anywhere in the cage. Note that this is not for the novice cage builder. It's a time-consuming project as any 4-level configuration would be, but if you have any questions, we're always here to help and provide additional images.

Yes. The rods used on the 2x4 grid stack are one 37" outer rod and two 32" inner rods for the upper cage support, so accommodate the 74" span of the 2x5 grid cage. I would be sure to use a lot of cable ties at every single connection just for added strength. ;)

I love this idea. But I am wondering if it would be possible to create this and add a ramp between the two levels.

Unfortunately not. The ramp would have to be very long and would require a lot of reinforcing. You'd also have to cut a hole in the upper level for the ramp to pass through. You might be able to use two ramps and create a landing half way down to reduce the slope of a single long ramp. If you're handy, you might find some of our materials useful, but we haven't ventured into that type of ramp yet. This stacked cage is really just for separated pairs. You might want to check out our "Piggy In Paint" Cagetopia Creation. It's a modified stacked cage that you can safely add a ramp from the upper cage to the lower cage. :) https://www.guineapigcagesstore.com/piggy-in-paint

You can close up the lower level by using a row of half grids in the front above where the front gate opens. When the gate is closed, it closes up the cage. The top cage, on the other hand, can use a cover IF you use an additional rod set (32" - 37" - 32") across the top. We just had a customer come up with that idea and it worked nicely. :)

So then I would buy 1 covered cage and put the additional rod set on the TOP of the top cage? Or on the bottom of the top cage. I am a little confused.

Yes, covered cage goes on top, then two rod sets. One on TOP in front which will support the cover if you're using the swing grids to access the top cage, and the second one as shown in red above. Is there articles anywhere that give instructions on how to use support rods or do they come with how-to-use packets when they're delivered?

We provide instructions for the cages, stand, and bins. The half grids in the middle are added the same way the cage is built on top of the stand. The swing grids are used just like the standard grids by inserting them into the connectors. The two smaller rods are inserted into the one larger rod and cable tied just under the top cage for support. If you need additional images, I'd be happy to email them to you. :)

Is it possible to quickly purchase everything instead of going to each one and checking it out? I feel it would be easier to have the option of adding everything the way it was customized itself. It would be more convenient.

Hi Madison, We feel your pain. I've tried to make this happen, but the problem is, most component items have options associated with them, like color, size, etc, that make it complicated. The ecommerce platform that we are on is already one of the few that supports our complicated products and that extra level of complexity to bundle items that still need features and options selected just adds another level of complexity that they do not support. We'll continue to explore ways to make it happen, but for the near future, it's the best we can do. So sorry!

Hi Gabby, this is an advanced cage setup and is not recommended for C&C newbies. We do provide very detailed instructions on how to assemble each item, but not necessarily how to put them all together. However, it's not really hard either. Usually, it's just figuring out which way to turn connectors between levels. And that is pretty much just like tinker toys. In this very new setup, you need to pay attention to the images here for combining things. We did just a photo at the bottom of this article that highlights how the support bar is secured for the upper level. Let us know if you have more questions. Thanks.

IF you are making this cage with a 2x4 grid large cage, yes. The extendable long set contains a 37" outer rod and 32" inner rod. Then you just need one more 32" rod to insert into the other end.

I am absolutely in love with this cage design, my question is whether it would be possible to add something like the lookout lounge to the bottom cage, and maybe add a second level to the cage on the top. I don't have guinea pigs right now, but am planning to get some during the summer, and this will be absolutely beautiful to have as a cage for them.

Hi Rhiamae, Well, if you are new to guinea pigs, I strongly suggest starting out with a cage that is appropriate for two guinea pigs and is also easy to clean. This cage layout, while it looks really cool, is not an ideal setup. It is intended for people who absolutely do not have any room for two separate pairs (3 will be crowded) in unstacked cages. You have to be on your knees and sometimes ducking your head into the lower level for thorough cleanings. Depending on the cage location in your home, the bottom cage will likely have less natural light. If stacked cages can be avoided, they should be. It is much easier to take care of guinea pigs at normal table-level height and then that gives you much more ability to get creative in adding levels and runs for them. For an ideal setup for two guinea pigs, I like the Roomie Zoomie cage we show here (https://www.guineapigcagesstore.com/roomie-zoomie) WITH the addition of a Lookout Lounge on the other end to be one of the most ideal setups that is super EASY-to-CLEAN in the bargain. You can put it on a cage stand if that is part of the appeal. Keeping the cage as easy to clean as possible should be your number one goal after making sure the pigs are happy because in the long run, that is what will make or break your long-term happiness with keeping guinea pigs. :) All that said, to answer your question, the Lookout Lounge as we currently sell it, would not work. But, the original prototype that I did for it (which I still have) would, but it requires using our Door Grids and our slightly more-expensive-to-ship Shelf Grids rather than the current configuration, which is why we reconfigured it a bit. So, doable, but would require providing that solution to you and you'd have to order the parts separately. And no, you really can't add an upper level to the top cage, as the support grids with the needed connectors wouldn't be there (due to the drop-down wall). And it will make the cage too high for access and cleaning. Hope that helps clarify what's possible and why. :)

Hello, I was wondering of this can somehow be done with one level being 2x4 and one level being 2x5. I have three boys and one doesn't get along with the other two, but he doesn't necessarily need the space of a 2x5.

Well, not really in a directly stacked fashion. While it might be possible with some super creative structure, it's untested and we wouldn't be able to recommend a setup for that that would for sure work.
